Ro/Room is a lighthearted exploration into the politics of domestic space. This room inside a room is a 1:2 scale replica of the surrounding walls and encases a mattress situated on the centre of the floor. Visitors are encouraged to take their shoes off and climb into the space to see that the mattress inside occupies the entire new interior and creates a universe where floors are soft and humans are bigger than windows. With no ceiling on Ro/Room, looking up reveals the lines mirrored in the original coving and calls attention to the ornate Glasgow tenement architecture. Both uncanny and comforting, the space is designed to foster a subjective experience where perspectives might shift and surprising interactions might happen.
This exhibition is child friendly although care should be taken with small children due to the surfaces and finish of the installation. It is unfortunately not wheelchair friendly.
This space will be available to sleep overnight for the duration of the Glasgow Open House Festival Weekend. To book please visit the AirBnB listing.
